In autumn, nature turns into a true blaze of colour – golden yellow, orange and reddish tones, wherever you look. The warm temperatures are ideal for a walk in the midday and afternoon sun, especially the “Poststeig”, which leads to Ortisei / St. Ulrich, is famous for its lively colours and sunny walks in autumn. You can sit on benches, relax, pause for a while, and then, relish the tranquillity and the colourful spectacle of nature.
Only 100 metres away from our house is a flying field with a breathtaking view for enthusiastic model pilots.
Autumn is the time of “Törggelen”
A very old tradition in South Tyrol is the “Törggelen”. On the last warm autumn days, the “Buschenschänke” (taverns) open their doors and you can sit in their wonderful farmhouse parlours. A traditional “Törggele-meal” comprises bacon, “Schüttelbrot” (flat hard bread), homemade meats with sauerkraut, barley soup, the traditional “Tris” made of different dumplings and “Schlutzkrapfen”. At “Törggelen” it is a tradition to drink the homemade “young” or “new” wine, grape must, or fresh apple juice, and, of course, the sweet “krapfen” (doughnuts) and roasted chestnuts are a must. Numerous “Buschenschänke” (taverns) are situated in our neighbourhood and invite to stop by to taste all their regional delicacies.
